Recently, James made a purchase off of eBay. It's a VHS tape from 1988 starring "Marlo Thomas & friends", including 10-year-old me donning pink Hong Kong issue glasses (thanks Dr. Li!) and a safari hat. The copy on the box sums it up this way: "An Emmy Award-Winning Special! Russian and American kids come together with talk, laughter and songs!" However, the customer reviews on Amazon paint quite a different picture, exclaiming, "This video is a total piece of crap... Worst video I've seen... I have not been this disappointed in a LONG time. Waste of film!!!!!" True art is always polarizing?

I recently joined Netflix (though I think I'll cancel before my two week trial is up, cause it seems stupid to pay for something I can get free from the NYPL), and my first selection was this movie from 1979 called Breaking Away. Inexplicably, it was nominated for something like nine Oscars, though James and I found it laughably bad (though still entertaining cause y'know, it's about a kid obsessed with bikes). There's a Jeff look-a-like in the movie--his real life name is Hart Bochner. I googled him to find more pictures so I could verify the likeness, and came up with these... This one is from some movie called Supergirl (do you see the resemblance?):

And this one is just some current publicity shot, but now we know what Cara is signing on for if she's in it for the long haul:

A Void

Did you ever finish it?

Yeah, the finished star was kind of wack.

Yesterday I joined Sang for his weekly origami class at the Scholastic Library. The modular elements looked promising when they were still in pieces, but the resulting star was sadly unimpressive. I won't saddle you with a sorry picture of it.

We miss you dearly, but for now your flat doppelgangers have been grand company--my pair has been hanging out on my newly tiled window sill under my blooming amaryllis, monitoring the ebb and flow of traffic on the BQE, and the comings and goings of the earnestly-suited Jehovah's Witnesses of the Watchtower complex beyond that. Your safari with the Wolinsky clan has been amazing, we can only assume? Send photos soon!
