Halloween

While Julia and Cara were off on their travels, the rest of y'all celebrated Halloween here in New York. Lacking the necessary planning required to coordinate costumes, we ended up with a random assortment of odds and ends. My favorite response to the endless Halloween inquiry "what are you dressed as?"...Eric's succinct "Fuck you!"
So don't ask!
We began our night in Jersey City at Rick and Pam's. Consummate hosts, they provided gory Halloween eats: quiche with maggots, head cheese sandwiches, cricket salad, along with lots of candy! Here we are - check out how upset Sameer is that Eric spilled beer on his pants, hee hee!

Next stop was a dance party in Williamsburg:

There was dancing,

superhero wedgies,

and a guy with a mutant undeveloped twin growing out of his head.

The people who had the best moves on the dance floor though, were Sameer's friend Agnes:

and a friend of hers who was dressed as a "my little pony pegasus." Hers was also my favorite costume of the night - both in terms of concept and execution (extra points for being homemade and for the overall color scheme). I managed to get pictures from the side (this is the way she posed when I asked if I could get a picture),

Costumes from the next party we went to.
Of the self-explanatory variety:

Of the natural history variety:

and of the wtf variety:

And I'm ending here with Monica, because hers was definitely the most popular costume of our group's that night. At least three separate people (if not more) came up to her to gush about it.

Cuba vid - Sensitive Plant

I am growing this plant on my windowsill now!

Wanted to add more videos, but all the interesting ones are like 100MB+. Sorry!!

Cuba!

The day of horror in the Vinales hospital

Feeling much better after the injection, our host-gramps shows me what's up with Guantanamera
The next day, this smile belies the rapid return of the raging fever that had us racing several km back home on our bikes 30 mins later

Gorgeous cliffs in Vinales, as we recuperate pool-side at some swank hotel we were not staying at

Maria la Gorda ("the fat") was a Venezuelan lady who was marooned on Cuba and turned to prostitution to survive. This beach is named after her!

Julia snapped this lovely shot of a crumbling wall in Trinidad

We rode horses out to this amazing swimming hole

The Trinidad posse (plus our scary horse-wrangler in the background!)

It was a gorgeous ride

Stunning views on horseback

Julia's horse kept walking her into the thorn bushes. She was horrified when she realized that horses are untame beasts and actually need to be steered.

People really do use horses to get around every day. It's, like, totally normal.

On a catamaran going snorkeling!

If you could only bring one thing with you to a desert island...

...you might play with it all day until the sun set

Impromptu salsa crash-course in Trididad

Yep, revolution is everywhere.
