To quote a friend: FU 2009
I GOT A NEW CAMERA! The Canon G11. Thanks Claud, Matthias & Eleanor!! Haven't figured out how to use it yet so these pictures are pretty middling, but here's the quiet part of my new years eve. Oh yeah, also, Carl & Ros announced that they got married last week and are having a baby--what!!!! So happy for them.

Aeolian Electric
The NYSea Crew descended on Solar One last night to check out Aeolian Electric, an installation curated by our own Elliott Montgomery! There was windpowered art by Elliott that played a Winnie the Pooh song:

And a piece by Eric that flapped bird wings in a slightly creepy, cyborg way:
It was also a chance for some good ol'fashioned hanging out!

It was Nobuko and Julian's year anniversary in New York (which is why they are forming the letters U.S. in this picture)!

Ryan dressed foppishly for the occasion (btw, this picture has me thinking maybe we should all be fops for Halloween):

Sameer pedalled his bs for the camera:

Good clean fun all around:

Fourth of July
On July 4th, we went down to Battery Park to hear Sonic Youth .

We actually got pretty close (thanks to Nicole, who'd scoped out a spot a *lot* closer to the stage).

as you can see in this picture looking the other way:

But with my new camera, what's a few hundred feet?

After the show, we were at a bit of a loss as to what to do. Until we remembered that I have a balcony! So some people came over,

Julia got serious on the grill,

Francis ate some bacon chocolate (for reals),
Bich Thu and I got silly,

etc...
and then we watched some fireworks!

Schizophrenic Evening
Friday night started off sedately enough. Bich Thu invited us over for a little dinner party. We all shared some home-cooked dishes comprised mostly of CSA vegetables like turnips, swiss chard, lettuce greens, radishes. There was fish too. We chatted and petted the cat and enjoyed some wine. We generally acted our age.

Then BAM! RAGING IMPROMPTU DANCE PARTY!! Ridiculous and ridiculously fun.

Another killer summer is on the way
The first outdoor scrabble game of the season happened in Fulton Ferry State Park, in honor of Kristina's visit from San Francisco. Things felt a little off kilter and then we realized it was because Banana Hammock man was nowhere in sight. Dunno where he was off to, but condolences to him and his loved ones--I can only imagine that it must have been a serious family emergency to keep him and his fluorescent butt floss away on such a perfect day.

May being bike Month, there were also many Bicycle Film Festival happenings, including a party at Studio B. There was dancing:

There were pals hugging:

And Lucky Dragons did a performance art piece involving humming rocks:

Elliott helped get the party started:

And that's all she wrote for BFF shenanigans:

Two weekends ago there was also a 50 mile bike ride out to a farm in Long Island (thanks for inviting us, Monica!) which involved lots of lycra, excessive heat, and a seaside respite--most of the pictures are on Facebook already but here are a few more:
